The Game Changers: Spriha Bhandari, Cornell Tech LL.M.

The Game Changers
The individuals who have made a difference in the LL.M. experience

The Game Changers is a series of short interviews wherein we ask LL.M. graduates to identify one individual who has had a substantial impact on the individual’s LL.M. experience.

There are two purposes of this series: one, to highlight the fact that each LL.M. experience is unique, and two, to recognise individuals who have made an impact on someone’s life.

In this post Spriha Bhandari shares her Game Changer during her time as a candidate of Master of Laws in Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship at Cornell Tech.

Spriha Bhandari is an 2018 graduate of Cornell Tech, completing the Master of Laws in Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship degree.

The Game Changer: Professor Matthew D’Amore

Why was he a Game Changer?

One of the many people that helped me have an enriching experience at Cornell Tech is Prof. Matthew D’Amore. We were his first batch of students and he ensured that all of us were focused and driven, and most importantly, always heard.

His room was always open to all of us, and he still continues to be my mentor. I think what sets good mentors apart from others is that they’re extremely honest but at the same time, they’re also very kind.

A piece of advice that Matt gave me was something to this effect – ‘You want to do this, that and then also the other. That’s great! BUT – start from this – JUST one thing. Take that step and that’s all you need to focus on right now.’

It was honest but conveyed with utmost kindness. And I still tell myself that whenever I’m overwhelmed with all the things I want to do or that I am doing.

Pursuing a degree is such a life-altering experience especially if it is outside one’s home country, and to be able to connect with people who guide and support you even after you graduate, is one of the most rewarding experiences that comes out of it.

In the end, it’s all about the community we build and I’ve been lucky to have met people like Matt!
